7 Things Your Dog Should Be Thankful for, But Isn’t

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. This is always a good time to look back and reflect on the things we are thankful for. Dogs are certainly on that list! If Fido could make a list of the things he was most grateful for, we’re pretty sure that bacon, car rides, belly rubs, and toys would all be on it. However, your canine pal may not appreciate all of the things that keep him happy, healthy, and safe. Here, a Los Gatos, CA vet lists some things Fido probably doesn’t appreciate as much as he could.

Secure Trashcans

Man’s Best Friend has definitely been known to dig snacks out of the trash. However, trash can contain all sorts of dangerous items, like can lids and tinfoil, so many pet parents use secure lids. Sorry, Fido: it’s for your own good!

Fences & Leashes

Dogs are very active, and love to go exploring. However, letting your canine companion run loose would be very, very dangerous, not to mention illegal. Just don’t expect your pooch to be grateful for the fence that keeps him out of the neighbor’s yard! Fido probably isn’t particularly thankful for his leash, either.

Vacuum Cleaners

Vacuuming regularly will not only help keep your home flea-free, it will also remove dust, fur, and dander from the air. Dogs don’t quite understand that, though. In fact, Fido sees the vacuum as some form of scary robot that’s trying to eat the carpet!

Baths

Does your dog run and hide at the mention of the word Bath? Fido is really just not a big fan of getting bathed! However, we strongly suspect that dogs really enjoy feeling clean and soft afterwards.

A Good Diet

If it were up to Fido, you’d probably be filling his doggy dish with bacon and sausage every day. However, your furry buddy will look and feel much better with proper nutrition!

Us

Proper veterinary care is crucial to Fido’s health and well-being, so coming to see us is definitely in his best interests. That said, it’s probably safe to say that our furry patients don’t really understand the point of vaccinations or exams. They aren’t exactly grateful for spay/neuter surgery, either!
