8 Things to Do With Fido This Summer

June 15, 2016

Are you ready for summer? We are! Even though we live in a pleasant climate, summer is still a great time to enjoy some fun in the sun. Our canine buddies also enjoy the warm weather. Read on as a San Jose, CA vet lists some great things for you to do with your dog this summer.

Vet Check

First things first: before heading off on fun summertime adventures with your dog, make sure that Fido is microchipped and wearing proper ID tags, and is current on parasite control and important vaccines.

Man’s Best Friend loves to visit new places and sniff unfamiliar patches of grass. Bring Fido to a dog-friendly park or trail. Just be sure to put safety first. Keep your pup leashed, except at fenced doggy playgrounds. Before letting your dog play with his buddies, make sure there are no aggressive pooches around. Also, bring waste baggies to pick up after your pet.

Enjoy Some Ice Cream

Ice cream is a summertime classic, and a great way to cool off on a sweltering day. Pick up some doggy ice cream for Fido in a local pet or grocery store, or make your own by mixing plain yogurt with peanut butter, honey, pureed pumpkin, and/or sodium-free broth.

Have A Photo Shoot

Summer’s golden light can make for some great pictures of your furry pal. Get some shots of Fido running after his favorite toy, or just being his adorable furry self.

Water Fun

Does your dog like water? If you have a pool, let Fido enjoy some supervised water fun. (Tip: make sure your pup knows where the stairs are!) You can also set up a little kiddie pool for him to splash in, or let him play in the sprinkler.

Lazy summer Sundays are perfect for just relaxing outside and soaking up some sun. Get Fido a little hammock bed, and work on your synchronized napping routine.

Bring Fido to a dog-friendly café, and get your canine friend a special snack. Instant tail wags!

Spa Time

Even if you usually bathe Fido at home, consider taking him to a groomer. If your pup has heavy fur, he may be more comfortable with a summer cut. Don’t forget the pedicure!
