Wouldn’t it be awesome if our pets could speak? Imagine the conversations we would have! More importantly, if our animal companions could talk, when they were feeling sick or had become injured in some way, they could simply tell us what was bothering them.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Combine this with the fact that many illnesses and injuries cannot be easily detected on the surface of the skin, and we’ve got quite the mystery on our hands. It’s up to us, as pet owners and veterinary professionals, to dig deeper and get to the bottom of what’s bothering our animal companions so we can treat the problem in the most effective and efficient way possible.

When it comes to understanding the health of our companion animals, we rely on veterinary diagnostics to help us crack the code. These tools allow us to get a glimpse at what’s happening inside your pet’s body so we can quickly and accurately diagnose and treat the problem most effectively. Camden Pet Hospital offers routine and advanced diagnostic services to provide our patients with the best possible care.

Our hospital is outfitted with the most modern diagnostic testing equipment available, from digital radiology (x-ray) and ultrasound imaging to cardiology and more. We also have our own in-house laboratory, where we are able to run a broad spectrum of tests, including blood and chemistry analysis, cytology, and microscopy. When a situation arises for which a timely diagnosis is essential, you can count on the team at Camden Pet Hospital.

Veterinary Radiology

Camden Pet Hospital is proud to offer advanced digital x-ray technology as part of our comprehensive suite of diagnostic services. Radiology is one of the most powerful tools we have at our disposal when it comes to diagnosing medical problems in your pet. X-ray images are used to identify the location and severity of fractures, detect symptoms of heart disease, identify foreign bodies in your pet’s stomach and much more.

The x-ray technology available to patients of Camden Pet Hospital is digital, which produces high-quality, high-resolution x-ray images in much less time than traditional film x-rays. This means less time on the x-ray table and, more importantly, less stress for your pet. We are also equipped to provide soft tissue, bone and contrast studies using this state of the art x-ray technology.

Digital x-ray images can be reviewed and analyzed instantly, and can be emailed or saved to a disc, allowing for fast consultations with specialists, when necessary. Board-certified veterinary radiology specialists are available to evaluate x-rays on-site at our hospital every two weeks. We can also send out x-rays to our telemedicine partner for “STAT evaluations” in the event of an emergency.

Diagnostic Laboratory

Advanced blood tests and other laboratory procedures provide a clearer picture of what’s happening within your pet’s body and allow us to develop a more complete diagnostic and treatment plan. Our advanced laboratory is capable of processing a wide variety of tests, including, but not limited to:

  • Complete blood counts and blood panels
  • Diabetes testing and monitoring
  • Heartworm screening
  • Fecal exams for giardia and other parasites
  • FIP/FeLV testing
  • Thyroid function evaluation
  • Much more…

Our experienced staff is capable of quickly and accurately interpreting your pet’s results. This leads to faster treatment for your pet – something that’s critically important for many illnesses and injuries. The sooner we can identify and address the problem, the better the chances of a positive outcome. For more advanced or specialized testing, we also work with a full-service outside laboratory that returns test results within 24 hours.

Specialist Referrals

At Camden Pet Hospital, our goal is to ensure that each patient we serve receives the highest quality of care available. In some instances, this may involve a referral to a veterinary specialist. If, at any time during the course of your pet’s care, our veterinarians determine that a second opinion or the advice of a specialist would be beneficial, we may provide you with a referral. Rest assured that all of your options will be discussed with you and arrangements will be made either for a board-certified specialist to examine your pet on-site, or for your pet’s transfer to a local specialty practice.

In order to continue to provide outstanding care for your pet, we have partnered with local veterinary specialists in the fields of radiology, cardiology and ultrasound so that we may offer the following services:

  • X-ray evaluation and recommendations
  • Ultrasound of both thoracic and abdominal body cavities
  • Ultrasound guided needle aspirates or biopsies
  • Echocardiograph for cardiac evaluation
